Lindab delivers ventilation system in fossil-free steel to Castellum

Lindab and Castellum are collaborating on duct systems in fossil-free steel for a renovation project in Stockholm, Sweden. Lindab is the first ventilation company in the world to receive a pilot delivery of fossil-free steel from SSAB. Castellum is significantly reducing the project's climate impact by choosing fossil-free ventilation ducts for its refurbishing.

The majority of Castellum's climate impact comes from construction projects. To reduce the climate footprint, there is a major focus on and responsibility for using climate-efficient methods, products, and materials in renovations and new construction projects. In a renovation project, an average of 50-80 percent of the climate impact comes from installations, with the ventilation system accounting for the largest share.

The property in Stockholm, Sweden, is a building from the 1960s. When the opportunity arose to use duct systems made of fossil-free material with the same technical properties and highest tightness class, it was an obvious choice for Castellum in the project. The property will be ready for tenant occupancy in June 2024.

"The collaboration with Lindab has given us a better insight into how we as property owners and customers can do even more in installation projects and how we can work together to reduce our climate impact," says Björn Röber, Head of Property Management Projects at Castellum in the Stockholm region.

"We are very pleased with our cooperation with Castellum and what we are achieving together in this project", says Ola Ringdahl, President and CEO of Lindab. "We are the only producer that can deliver ventilation systems in fossil-free steel and there has been great interest. Castellum has a clear desire to reduce its climate impact, and it is precisely through this type of collaboration that we can reduce both our own and our customers' climate impact while creating a healthier indoor climate."

The fossil-free steel comes from SSAB and is produced using the HYBRIT® technology. As a selected partner, Lindab has been given access to a pilot delivery, which makes it possible to deliver products several years before the planned regular production of fossil-free steel, which is expected to take place in 2026. Lindab offers ventilation ducts in recycled steel as part of its standard range and ventilation ducts in fossil-free steel to selected customers who can take advantage of the pilot delivery from SSAB.
